Roommate + Roommate + Roommate = Two?

What are you mad about? Submit your rage at: http://wybmif.wordpress.com/submit/

I live in a three bedroom apartment. Until about six months ago it was me and two female friends from college. Then one of those friends moved out and a guy we all sort of knew in college moved in. He’s a totally great roommate and  a totally great guy and my friend and I both felt we won the roommate game.  Unfortunately, it turns out that my friend decided that by virtue of being a great roommate and guy, he would also make a great boyfriend. The two of them started hooking up about three months after he moved in and now have moved into full-fledged coupledom, cuddling on the couch, making breakfast in the morning and dinner in the evening and leaving me to feel like the third wheel in my own apartment. I’m starting to think I should just move out, but I love my apartment a lot, and that’s kind of hard to come by in NYC. Really I think they should realize that if they want to be a couple and live together they should go get their own place. I’ve dropped some hints but they are totally oblivious and I’m totally getting more furious by the day! I’m at the end of my rope and think I need to say something, but I’m not sure if I’m being unfair to them and their newfound love? Should I just suck it up and let them be, or are am I right that they should take their cuddling to their own couch in their own apartment?

  1. 1 louise

I always want to change the name of this blog, depending on the situation. For this quite juicy situation, I wish Marie had written in to ” Should you air your feelings if….” Time to sit down, with a nice bottle of wine and have a heart to heart (to heart.) Being mad just oversimplifies it. How bout jealous, awkward, lonely, confused, grossed out, ambivalent even?

  1. 1 Can I cook with a stainless steel Burner cover still on the burner of my electric stove?
